Former Prime Minister and SODELPA Leader, Sitiveni Rabuka is prepared to fight the 2018 General Election under the 2013 constitution.
While different political parties leader have their own views when it comes to the current constitution, for Rabuka it is all about adjusting to what is now in place.
For someone who played a key role with the National Council for Building a Better Fiji, Jone Dakuvula still thinks the process that resulted in reaching to this constitution could have been managed better.
” What significant about that consultation was that a great majority of ordinary people in Fiji when they see something that bring senses to them they endorsed it, they were for unity, they were tolerance, they were for equality we often underestimate the intelligence of ordinary people in Fiji”
SODELPA leader, Sitiveni Rabuka is already putting plans in place on how he will approach the elections under the current constitution.
He compares our current political landscape to that of a game of rugby!
” We all know when we go on to a field to play rugby or soccer the referee decide, the referee interpret the rule, the guy looking at the video replay he is one that makes the decision we cant argue, if he says it is a try it is a try, if he says it is a forward pass then we all go back and complain that is the way we are right now”
For another political leader,Mahendra Chaudhary the 2013 constitution is simply not favorable.
” I ask making us a party getting us to celebrate it but I asked you what is there is this constitution to celebrate about it is not our constitution it does not have our approval”
NFP Leader, Dr Biman Prasad said the process that was used leading to the 2013 constitution is a concern for him.
” Both the 1997 constitution and the Ghai constitution had those principals it had the process which allowed political leaders, stakeholders to work together to create a platform where there right was heard”
Constitution Day will be celebrated tomorrow at Albert Park in Suva.
