An exhibition depicting unique works of Japanese art was on display last night.
Organised by the Embassy of Japan, the Japan Foundation, and the Fiji Museum, the exhibition focused on artworks from the Tohoku region, northern part of the main island of Japan.
The beautiful Handicrafts commemorated the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.
It was a presentation of various textiles, metalwork, wood and bamboo crafts.
“Modern civilisation owes a lot to its cultural, traditional and artistic roots. Our ancestors created cultural traditions, music and arts as way of instilling social cohesion, communal standards and for encouraging creativity. Such type of social structuring and norms were prominent in mankind’s prosperity from primitive lifestyles, which have formed the basis of our thriving societies today” said Takuji Hanatani the Ambassador of Japan )
The show also allowed visitors to enjoy the diverse and wide range of other activities Japan has to offer.
” In order to build long lasting friendship and tolerance between people of different countries it is important that we create better understanding between different cultures, traditions, music and art. Such nature is a deep characteristic of our humanity. This is why our exhibition not only showcases the artworks from Tohoku but it also promotes cultural exchange between Fiji and Japan”
