Women and girls are also victims of war-crimes and genocide even if they don’t actively take part in them.
Fiji’s Sharon Bhagwan Rolls made the comments at the United Nations where the Commission on the Status of Women is meeting.
She spoke in her capacity as the chair of the International Steering Group on the Prevention of Armed Conflicts.
“The results of peace and security are felt through populations particularly as genocides and other war crimes disproportionately affect women and girls, however women are not just victims of conflicts but they have an important role to play in the implementation and advancement of peace, conflict prevention and resolution processes. “ said Sharon Bhagwan Rolls – International Steering Group on the Prevention of Armed Conflicts.
