Fiji goes down in FIFA World Cup Stage qualifier

Picture1The Vodafone Fiji football side lost to New Zealand earlier this afternoon in the FIFA World Cup Stage qualifier at Lautoka’s Churchill Park.

The Fijians went down 2 nill at second half.

The Fijians played their hearts out for the many fans in the first half of the match.

Fiji held the possession in the first spell giving no room to score for New Zealand All Whites.

There were multiple occasions when Fiji had opportunities to score but did not take advantage.

Nill-all at half time.

Fiji was finding it hard to keep possession and to move away from their own territory in the second half.

The disappointment in the second half a handball inside Fiji’s own box by Peniame Drova gave the All Whites the opportunity to lead off with the successful penalty kick.

A mistake by Fiji’s goal keeper seven minutes later gave the Kiwis another opportunity.

Marco Rojas tackled Beniamino Mateinaqara and placed the ball into the back of the net.

By this time the Fijian fans had given up for the side.

Roy Krishna had an opportunity at the end of the second half however there was no support from the Fijian side to finish Krishna’s cross.

Fiji Will now play the return leg on Tuesday in Wellington.
