Fiji’s judiciary has welcomed more additions to its ranks following the swearing of two new resident magistrates at the State House
Magistrate Nirosha Kannangara and Bandula Guneratne join the Magistrate Court in Fiji after their appointment was formalised by the Head of State before the Chief Justice Judge Anthony Gates and Chief Registrar Yohan Liyanage.
Guneratne completed his three years study program in Attorney-at-Law at the Sri Lanka Law College.
He was called to the Bar as an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in 2004.
Prior to his appointment as the new resident magistrate, Guneratne served as a Judicial Officer in the Sri Lankan judiciary.
He also worked as a defence counsel in criminal courts and in the private sector as a Legal Officer in Insurance and Banking.
Kannangara has a Masters of Laws Degree and a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka.
She was admitted and enrolled as an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in 1998.
