A special audit of materials received as aid during tropical cyclone Winston reveals donations didn’t tally with stock kept at the Fiji Procurement Office.
In his latest report, the auditor general has identified materials from countries like India, Japan, UNICEF, Australia, South Korea, China and the World Food Program were not accounted for at the Fiji Procurement Office.
The report said records shown in the tally cards differed with records maintained at the procurement office.
The Auditor General has recommended that tally cards be updated daily and records matched with courier companies which brought in the materials.
The Fiji Procurement Office in response said the auditor general’s recommendations are good for normal peace times, adding the issue raised was only a matter of reconciliation of figures.
It said items were also received directly at their warehouse without the offices knowledge.
