Fifty-three seafarers on Yanuca Island have been up-skilled on safety, navigation, maintenance, voyage planning and use of equipment while at sea.
The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji conducted this training for Boat-Masters and Class 6 Restricted Master/Engineer.
MSAF CEO, John Tunidau says that this training on a regular basis is to ensure seafarers, particularly in rural areas, have regular and affordable access to important safety and general maritime training.
Training was made available to seafarers from Yanuca and surrounding areas including Beqa, Lepanoni, Naboutini, Vunaniu, Deuba and Serua.
Training included the use of important Life Saving Appliances such as life jackets, which MSAF has made available at Post Fiji Offices across Fiji.
