Vodafone Fiji 7s coach – Gareth Baber, has opened the doors for overseas-based players, who will want to represent Fiji in next year’s Commonwealth Games and the Rugby 7s World Cup.

Last year, Josua Tuisova and Leone Nakarawa were the two overseas-based players, that played an instrumental role in helping Fiji win gold in Rio – and with this, Baber will not shy away from getting overseas based players.

Yeah absolutely i want the best team possible to play for Fiji, I know that they are involved in competitions around the world especially in Europe and i have to select players who can make that transition into sevens quite quickly.”

Baber says 2018 will be a hectic year for the team, and preparations will need to start soon, so that players are ready for the new season.

“But there’s heap of preparation going on and players are in their various training centers, we bring them everyday to train in their local gyms.Towards the end of August they will get together in a formal camp and we need to prepare well for the World Series Event.”
The first tournament of the HSBC World 7s Series is scheduled for December.
