During the last four day’s Namosi was host to more than two thousand member’s of the Catholic Women’s League, Fiji wide – and also a team from Australia.
What had been agreed to in August last year by the 26 member Committee – which started meeting in March this year, was to work out ways in which a small rural-based Community as such, would cater for the thousands who attended.
By yesterday afternoon the Chairperson was proud that Namosi has accomplished their goal.
Namosi Primary and Namosi Secondary School hosted more than 2 thousand members of the Fiji Catholic Women’s League in the past week.
One can only wonder the hard work behind it all to try and deliver the best for the member’s who came from all over Fiji and even Australia.
The numbers grew from the initial 800 to more than 2 thousand.
“From March the 26 member committee got together in disseminating information to the 13 villages within Namosi who were members of the Church. Each family was required to give 100 dalo tops, 1 kg grog and $10 per family. Within the 13 villages we had approximately 480 families who were members of the Church,” said Agavito Koroimanono – Committee Chairperson.
The welfare of the member’s was the Committee’s priority and they sought assistance to comply with OHS Standards.
All in all in trying to maintain the integrity of the Vanua of Namosi and for the visitors to take back something they will never have regretted to have been part of.
“You may have witnessed that we also sought the assistance of the Police Force to help in Law and Order during the League member’s stay here in the past few days. We also have members from the Health Ministry, the Health Inspectors are also here to assist in providing medical service to the member’s,” said Koroimanono.
For Unaisi who traveled all the way from St Margaret Mary’s Parish from Sydney she was overwhelmed with the hospitality shown.
“Well, I was impressed. We were just talking about the hospitality, we had warm drink, hot cuppa tea, hot coffee. We’ve had the toilets cleaned, we’ve been really well looked after by everyone. I believe it’s the largest gathering they’ve had here in Namosi for the Women. But the whole set, we’ve been never lack of food and the cleanliness of the area, the amenities, where we’ve stayed, where we’ve been hosted is been tremendous. I can’t fault them for anything,” said Unaisi Mataitini from the Fiji Sydney Catholic team.
When asked about how she felt after having member’s of 34 Parishes up in the Namosi Highlands last week, the Catholic Women’s League representative described it as “Awesome”.
“They’ve hosted many functions so it’s not new to them and coming from a Faith Based Organisation, Faith Based Church, it’s easy because we’ll understand the problems these people face and we’ll go along with that,” said Vinaina Ratuveilawa – Communications Team – Catholic Women’s League.
The Catholic Women’s League raised more than 200 thousand dollars during the four days which they hope will assist in the development of Women at grassroots level.
