The President Major-General (retired) Jioji Konusi Konrote yesteday evening officially opened the 2017 Miss Pacific Island Pageant in Nadi.
Attended by contestants from nine Pacific Island Countries from as far as Rapanui, HE Konrote thanked the various representatives for their bold stand in the fight against Climate Change.
He said the youths of the Pacific have shown that they are responsible citizens of the Islands and are the inspiration behind the fight for a cleaner and greener environment.
“The Flight against Climate Change is a fight for every individual and our youths have shown that they will continue the fight for the future generation and I thank these beautiful pride of the Pacific for their contribution in the fight to reduce carbon emissions and promote a cleaner greener environment.”
Countries participating in 2017 include; Tonga, Samoa, American Samoa, Cook Islands, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Nauru, Rapanui (Easter Island) and hosts Fiji.
This is the second time that Fiji is hosting the Pageant in its 31 years
