“Rights do come with responsibility but when there are limited rights shutting out a large section of a society from realizing its capacity, it results into a society devoid of responsibility, innovation and productive citizenry.”
This is the message from the Leader of Oppposition Ro Teimumu Kepa on the occasion of Human Rights Day 2017 observed on the 10th of December.
Kepa said therefore, rights are important to groom societies to enjoy freedom with responsibility, peace, progress and prosperity.
The Opposition Leader says the fact is Fiji had made great strides in achieving and conforming to international standards in terms of its freedoms and rights in the past but it is rather unfortunate that in the last 11 years we have gone in the opposite direction.
In a statement, Kepa said we cannot afford to be made prisoners in our own homeland at the dictates of the laws that are draconian in nature and imposed against the will of the people of Fiji.
