More than a thousand Police officers were deployed nationwide last night and dozens of check points erected on the roads.
All this was part of the Police Operations Fiji wide when the general public celebrated the new year.
Cameras and drones were also part of the operation.
Hi-tech gadgets and equipment were used by the Fiji Police Force to monitor the general public last night as they ushered in the new year.
An operation that ensured a trouble free celebration.
“As I speak the manpower deployment have been deployed in all divisions. We looking at almost 1500 officers just for the night and than we’ll change again when we come up in the morning so we’ll be hitting almost 2000.” said Assistant Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu
The Assistant Commissioner of Police made it clear on the operation that will continue for two more weeks.
” Our intention is very clear we would like an incident free new year and on that we have already stated that we will be banking on the support of the community at large.”
Police presence at every corner of the city last night was evident ensuring party goers young and old were well covered to move around freely.
” While we want people to come down and enjoy themselves in various places not only this but also churches and all the areas they will go into but our intention is to provide that environment for them to enjoy themselves as they welcome 2018.
With the new year celebrations still far from over, the Fiji Police Force is requesting the general public to enjoy responsibly and not get involved in illegal activities.” said Tudravu
