Heavy Rain and Flood Warnings remain in force, as an active trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain, continues to affect the country.
The Fiji Meteorological Office says within the trough, a low-level circulation has developed near Kadavu and is expected to gradually move southward, away from the Group.
The trough will affect the country until later tomorrow.
Periods of rain, heavy at times and squally thunderstorms is to continue over most places.
In the past 24hrs from 6am yesterday to 6am this morning, most parts of the country have received in excess of 100mm of rainfall, and more rainfall is forecast as the trough remains slow moving over the country.
Expect squally thunderstorms in heavy rain bands with winds up to 25 knots, and gusting up to 30 knots.
With rainy conditions to continue and the ground being saturated, and more rain getting into the streams and rivers – the chances of flooding remains HIGH in all major catchments.
Furthermore, communities living in flood and landslide prone areas – are to be alert at all times until the situation improves.
As the trough moves southeast, heavy rain will ease to occasional showers, and then an improvement in weather, is likely from the west later tomorrow; however, the eastern and the northern parts of the country, may see some improvement by – later on Wednesday.
At Sea, with the strong wind warning over the Yasawa’s and Mamanuca’s and Southern Lau Waters, northerly winds are forecast at 20 to 25 knots, and gusting to 40 knots – with rough seas and moderate easterly swells.
For the rest of Fiji Waters, east to northerly winds at 15 to 20 knots, gusty at times with moderate to rough seas, and moderate easterly swells.
