TC Josie expected to move out of Fiji Waters later tonight

10308288_421711904900873_5087670662361431788_nTropical Cyclone Josie maintains its Category 1 intensity as it tracks south southeast away from the Fiji Group.

Over the last 24 hours, it has slowed down in its movement and moving towards unfavorable environmental conditions and expected to weaken.

TC Josie was located about 180km south of Kadavu and 280km south of Suva at 12pm today.

The cyclone is estimated to have average winds of 65km per hour with momentary gusts to 90km per hour and moving south-southeast at about 7km per hour and expected to move out of Fiji Waters later tonight into early tomorrow morning.

On this track, the cyclone centre is expected to be located about 290km south-southeast of Kadavu at 12am tonight, and about 430km south-southeast of Kadavu at 12pm tomorrow.

For Kadavu, Matuku and Ono-i-Lau, expect damaging gale force winds with average speed of 65 km per hour and momentary gusts to 90km/hr. Anticipate gale force winds easing to strong with average speed of 50km/hr with gusts to 70km per hour today.

Damaging heavy swells, occasional rain, heavy at times and few squally thunderstorms can be expected over Matuku and Ono-i-Lau. Occasional showers and possible thunderstorms can be expected over Kadavu. Sea flooding for low lying areas is possible.

Weather has improved and heavy rain has eased to occasional showers.

Expect isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms for the rest of Fiji.

Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low lying areas as the ground remains saturated.
