FEA slowly restoring power supply

FEA-2-620x330With fine weather continuing from Monday and yesterday and with the receding water levels, this the FEA teams with restoration of power supply to Cyclone Josie affected areas around Viti Levu.

After finishing late last night, the FEA team got back into action from this morning to move into the respective districts to thoroughly inspect to identify the faults and hazards on the power lines before they were repaired and tested prior the power lines being energized.

Power supply status to the respective areas are as follows: 

·     Sigatoka District – Just over 70% of the customers are being supplied power from the Sigatoka Diesel Power Station. For customers who are yet to receive power supply, power lines to these areas need to be repaired and tested prior to the lines being brought into service and power supply is restored.

·     Nadi District – Just over 60% of the customers are being supplied power from the FEA grid. The power lines to the remaining customers who reside in flood affected areas need to be inspected and repaired if necessary before power supply is restored.

·     Lautoka District – About 94% of the customers are being supplied power from the FEA grid. For customers who are yet to receive power supply, power lines to these areas need to be repaired and tested prior to the lines being brought into service and power supply is restored.

·     Ba District – About 50% of the customers are being supplied power from the FEA grid. With the Ba town and the surrounding areas being underwater, we had to inspect the areas and the power lines to ensure that it is safe to be energized. The power lines transporting power supply to the remaining customers who reside in flood affected areas need to be inspected and repaired before power supply is restored.

·     Tavua District – Just over 10% of the customers are being supplied power from the FEA grid. For customers who are yet to receive power supply, power lines to these areas need to be repaired and tested prior to the lines being brought into service and power supply is restored. 

·     Rakiraki District – About 50% of the customers are being supplied power from the FEA grid. The power lines transporting power supply to the remaining customers who reside in flood affected areas need to be inspected and repaired before power supply is restored.

Our teams have been working cautiously and safely to repair and restore power supply to the affected areas. There are a lot of faults in the affected areas and we need to ensure that the power lines are thoroughly inspected to identify the faults and hazards before they are repaired and tested prior the power lines being energized. The teams focus has been on essential services such as:

·     Hospitals & Health Centres,

·     Water Supply & Sewerage Treatment Plants

·     Towns & Industrial Areas

Central Division

·     A few faults and damages in the Central Division which had affected power supply to our customers. Whilst we had been able to restore power supply to many of these customers, our customers around Serea, Nadovu, Naivucini, Nasalia, Laselevu Udu, Nairukuruku and Nakorosule are awaiting for the lines to be repaired before power supply is restored.

The Fiji Electricity Authority (FEA) requests the members of the public that in the event you notice a broken or low sagging power lines, please immediately call our emergency number 913 and report the hazard. For flood prone areas, we request the residents to also call FEA on 913 on rising water levels that compromises power line clearance.
