The Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption has brushed aside negative comments from some individuals who are speculating that the FICAC is not efficient and that it only prosecutes selected cases.
FICAC was established in 2007 and it’s now running into its 10th year of operations.
However recently there have been questions raised on its integrity and its independence.
FICAC spokesperson Nandini Vandhana says people must first understand the process behind investigations.
“The confidence in FICAC is really there from the members of the public from the different stakeholders that we are serving in the country, the business sector the private sector, the public sector members of the community at large there is a high level of confidence in FICAC in combating corruption in the country and spreading information and awareness in anti corruption.” Nandini Vandhana.
FICAC has been the champion for Anti-Corruption education and awareness for many years now, they now are adamant to inculcate the fundamentals of anti corruption to children from an early age.
“For this year we want to focus on moral values education, for Primary school students, and then moving on to Secondary school, this year members of the public can expect an initiative which focuses on piloting an anti corruption curriculum in the Schools.”Nandini Vandhana.
Since 2007 FICAC has prosecuted 353 people.
