Another fake doctor is now in police custody for operating an illegal medical practice.
Fiji Medical and Dental Secretariat has today confirmed to Fiji One News the man purported to be a doctor and ran a house to house operation in the Nasinu area.
Chief Executive Officer, Dharmesh Prasad says they only came to know of the fake doctor when it was reported to the Secretariat earlier this week.
He is currently being held here at the Nakasi Police Station.
“The name that was given to us by Dr Siti Waqa did not check out. We did not have anybody by that name registered as a medical practitioner. Then we inform the CID and they were quite swift and went to Nakasi and apprehended this person,” said Dharmesh Prasad, the Chief Executive Officer of Fiji Medical and Dental Secretariat.
The illegal doctor was apprehended by Police this morning in a home in Nakasi.
He was tending to residents in the area.
“What happen actually is that he saw a patient. The way the fake doctor acted and consulted this patient was fishy and the person got suspicious and reported the matter to us. When police raided the home he was working from today, they found basic medical equipment. It is quite sad, these were poor people about 10 to 20 people from
the village,” he added.
Police Spokesperson Ana Naisoro has confirmed the incident and says investigations are continuing.
