Fiji’s former Permanent Representative to the UN in New York Ambassador Peter Thomson was commended by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama for his enormous contribution towards advancing Fiji’s interests on the international stage.
Ambassador Peter Thomson is the current President of the United Nations 61st General Assembly and has been instrumental in advancing Fiji foreign interests as well as establishing Fiji’s position as host, chair, or president at various international forums and meetings.
At a reception to honor Ambassador Thomson and his wife last night, the Prime Minister led the Fijian delegation to the conference in paying
tribute to Ambassador Thomson not only for his years of diplomatic service but for his most recent involvement in the UN Oceans Conference that Fiji co-hosted with Sweden.
As President of the General Assembly, Ambassador Thomson was instrumental in having the Republic of Fiji Military Forces band perform throughout the week at the UN.
He was also instrumental in ensuring that Fiji, as co-host, would have access to the facilities and services within the UN for the duration of the conference.
